Union Township: Standing on it’s Own Free Markets

free marketsPicking winners and losers in the economic game can be risky business according to many folks.  John McGraw, one of our own residents in Union Township Precinct ‘D’ discusses this point in his 0p-ed written for the Community Journal.

The Union Township Community Improvement Corporation, (UTCIC) which was created in 2010, allows for the promotion of economic activity.  According to Mr. McGraw, by allowing competition, companies “will choose to locate in areas where the surrounding population has the economic means to support them.”  Union Township can bring in new business without gambling with our taxpayers dollars.  Read McGraw’s full opinion  here.

  1. On a wider scale, all three Clermont County Commissioners have voted to look into buying land adjacent to the Clermont County Airport so that a 2,000 foot extension can be built for two divisions of large companies (and future private jet owners). Apparently the theory is that LARGE companies bring GOOD jobs and thus require government subsidies. All those who disagee with picking winners and loosers raise your hands. No, Commissioners put your hands down. All those who have read Bastiat please raise your hands. No, Commissiomers put your hands down. All those who believe in corporate welfare……etc.
